Career Summary

Network security analyst work with a company’s computer system to detect and prevent unauthorized transmission of information from the computer systems to outsiders. Protecting the company’s valuable information from criminals can be a challenge as new technology is constantly being developed.

Computer OfficeOver the years, companies have spent a tremendous amount of money to protect information from being electronically stolen. However, the majority of all leaked information is the result of unintentional information from employees and executive management sending emails. Therefore it is the responsibility of the network security analyst to train and educate companies to prevent unintentional leaks.

Network security analyst may work to secure the network of the organization for which they work or consult to other organizations as a Representative for the company that offers the services. This may involve describing potential security needs along with developing security policies, performing risk evaluations, establishing and maintaining system security controls while also monitoring and testing security measures.

Additional responsibilities may include creating system documentation, installing and configuring hardware, and software such as firewalls and routing protocols. Lastly, Network security analysts may also train and ensure that computer users are aware of what is and is not computer safe in regards to computer communications.
