Career Summary

Event managers create and develop festivals and events. Since no two parties or festivals are ever alike, each event will be hand picked by an event manager. They tour and select the venue(s), communicate with caterers, contractors & flower designers and work with publicists to promote the event or in creating private party invitations.

Festivals and large corporate events are much too large and detail requirement specific for a company that doesn’t specialize in event planning to handle. Each aspect of a event has it’s own set of required details.

Musicians must be interviewed, selected and given instructions. Caterers must also be interviewed and provided with the potential necessary city licenses as well as given detailed theme and food selection choices. Event management companies service a variety of “events” and each one is very often 'one of a kind' and special to the client. Corporations have new product launches, press conferences and holiday staff parties. Marketing departments must have the ‘whatever it takes’ to attract new business at trade booth shows and promotional events. Entertainment industry companies are expected to present glamorous award ceremonies, film premieres and release parties. There are also fund raising parties, personal parties, birthdays , weddings and bar mitzvahs.

Event managers and their teams are behind-the-scenes running the event. They may also be involved in brand development marketing and communication strategies. Event managers are experts in coordination, customer service, communication, negotiation and scheduling.

Event Management is a gigantic industry and an essential part of both the corporate world and the private world. Celebrations and parties have been part of every society and formal event planning is not only a challenging but a rewarding service career.
