Career Summary

A chiropractic assistant works under the supervision of chiropractors to provide a wide variety of therapeutic treatments, which can include heat, water and ultrasound therapies. They perform preliminary exam procedures, take case histories, operate medical equipment, take x-rays, take specimens and perform lab tests. Chiropractic assistants may specialize by working in practices that deal with specific populations, such as the elderly and children.

Chiropractors rely on assistants during physical examinations and may help lift and turn patients undergoing treatment. While assistants usually perform more clinical duties, some also perform clerical tasks associated with medical records and appointments. They may do bookkeeping and billing, process insurance forms, and speak with patients about the chiropractic medicine and nutrition.
