Career Summary

Since before the 1950s radio stations broadcasted entertainment shows across America. From world news to comedies to variety shows, broadcasting has been a splendid type of entertainment. With performances such as The War of the Worlds (1938) to The Bob Hope Show in 1952 traveling into the 1970s and early 1980s when talk radio programs really caught listener’s attention – radio entertainment and broadcasters will always be needed and wanted. The listener definition has now been expanded to include web-based media outlets as boundaries and imagination has expanded to new realms.

Broadcasting is a fast-paced and self-motivated industry that is continually changing. Careers in broadcasting are exciting and unique but require a lot of ambition and self-motivation. Broadcasters research and talk about the latest news of interest, sports, weather, commercial developments and public service activities. Some host entertainment shows while others host informational programs. Almost all of today’s radio stations have some form of talk or call-in listener interaction as a regular part of their programming.

If you're interested in hosting a specialized talk show, you will need to be recognized as an expert in the area you plan to talk about. Otherwise, most talk show hosts talk with experts in their field and ask questions as a consumer that she / he believes the audience wants to know the answers to.

Broadcasting careers are very competitive and all successful broadcasters started at the bottom. First earning their degree in Broadcasting and than moving through the ranks from intern to paid employee in various positions. Some broadcasting career titles include:

Broadcasting is anther section of the entertainment industry. The success of a broadcast depends on its ability to entertain its audience and bring customers to advertising sponsors. Broadcasters, producers, and other team members must all work together to attract the largest possible audience, which in turn attracts advertising revenue.

With the Internet and WiFi breaking boundaries, broadcasters have access to a large audience. A lot of the media entertainment has gone online and it’s only a matter of time before live broadcasts are heard through our mobile phones and PDAs. As long as there are listeners there will be a need for broadcasters. Why? Because robots are neat but they can’t get an audience riled up and interactive.
