Career Summary
Operations managers also known as logistics, distribution and warehouse managers handle all of the coordination of warehouse, shipping and receiving communications and services in a company.
Operations managers develop, implement, and maintain shipping procedures to process customer requirements and maximize capacity of production lines. They implement company processes among internal departments such as manufacturing, purchasing, and outside suppliers. Operations managers will meet with other department managers to create short and long term forecasts to support the ordering and inventory flow of business.
It is the responsibility of the operations managers to develop an organizational ordering and inventory policies that will support company forecasts and company goals. Operations managers must be able to keep the flow of goods moving from manufacturing to clients and customers. This means that they need to consider how big the department staff needs to be in order to meet company goals.
Anther responsibility for logistics managers is to build long term relationships with existing customers, including logistics, purchasing, and operations personnel; ensure timely and accurate response to all customer complaints.
