The Career Opportunities Article

Before everyday life and it's responsibilities consumed us, we were (as children) princesses, knights, ballerinas, WWF Wrestlers and characters in a fantasy realm. Everything was an adventure with just a little imagination. Now we work, sleep, eat, hang out with friends occasionally and if we're really lucky, there's just enough free time for some "Me Time' and maybe a holiday.

What is more important to you - Living longer or living larger? Longer could mean you don't drive, you keep your feet on the ground, and watch what you eat. Is there a way to live longer and larger? The concepts of living longer vs larger are different and we confuse them at our own risk.

You can eat vegetables and fruits, high in nutrients and low in calories and lose 75 pounds. Those who maintain the calorie-restriction diet discipline are to be congratulated. However, part of the diet set of laws is that you can not eat sweets or dessert of any kind. Plus, calorie-restriction diet restricts a way too large variety of culture food, I can't live without. Personally, I would whether be happily plump than wishing for slender.

Advertising continually tells us that the safe quality of life comes only if you live in a manufactured community with minimal crime rates, drive the latest, greatest and safest automobile and travel to exotic locations only to stay in $300 per night resorts. The advertising Account Manager's primary job is to carefully lay out what we need to be safe and still live a valued life, and our role is to believe it and meekly go and buy it. Good quality living doesn't always mean a good quality of life.

If you really want to live longer and larger, start the change by changing your attitude. Your way of thinking can not only impact the quality of your life, but also how long you live. In 2002, researchers at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., found that optimistic people decreased their risk of early death by 50 percent compared with those who leaned more towards cynicism.

Constantly worrying about our safety and quality of life compared to others has obscured our vision of what we want. The work-a-holics are too afraid to work fewer hours because they won't be able to buy the safety that society tells them they must have. If we don't work as hard, society tells us that our quality of life isn't as valuable as someone else's.

Make your life a Life On Assignment

Life can be thrilling and adventurous, not filled with emotional drama from you or from others, but with new places and new things. I was once told

"You can't have fun all the time."

Why not? Is it some cosmic rule? 'Thou shall not have fun every day! I don't remember that from Catholic school. Than again, I believe it was someone from Catholic school that may have said that to me... never mind.

Unless you have done everything in life, life is as boring as you make it. There are several social clubs that specialize in getting groups together for adventures.

One Los Angeles group is eXtremethings Adventure Club. They organize group activities such as Paintball, Surfing Lessons, Firearms Safety Training classes and yoga on the Beach.

Age is no excuse for a lack of adventure. In fact, it's an excuse to be adventurous, especially if your over 50 and ready to take advantage of the Senior Discounts. As we get older we have lived enough of life that we should be able to know the difference between adventure and simply stupidity. The last thing you want is to end up on the Darwin Awards website. However, understand the different between the two.

  • Driving cross country is an adventure
  • Challenging a frat boy to a drinking contest is stupidity.

Do something just for fun with no expectations. Something you wouldn't normally do.

  • Try an ethnic restaurant you've never been to before.
  • Go to Festivals.com and pick a festival
  • Take lessons in something that has always fascinated you or something that recently peeked your curiosity.
  • Take a drive to a city you have never been to.

When I first moved back to California, I would drive to Malibu, CA once a week, simply for the peaceful drive of the scenery and to buy a Starbucks coffee. One day I saw Weird Al Yankovic. My life was complete... for one whole day.

Join an organization. Doing good does you good, says a study in the journal Psychology Science. The study reported that people who give to others can reduce their risk of dying prematurely by as much as 60 percent, compared with those who don't.

Forget what other people think. A study by clinical psychologist Dr David Weeks suggests peculiarity (or oddity) is the key to a longer and happier life. Those who are untroubled by the norms of society suffer from much lower levels of stress which enables them to live longer and larger.

Life is only boring if you don't live each moment as if it were the last. If you try to see the beauty in the world around you, then you'll never be bored. A completely safe life would be a boring and pointless. So go have some fun.
