The Career Opportunities Article

If you are treating everyone else like dirt, it's because you're treating yourself like dirt. Remember the old saying about bullies insult what they hate most about themselves? It's true.

Changing your attitude can be a difficult habit to change initially. Blaming, complaining, and finger-pointing are habits deeply ingrained in our culture. But it's truly remarkable how much the world changes when you change the way you see it. I know this is a cliche, but it stands strong and true. Why let other people create a reality for you? Start creating your own reality. Make it a daily habit to see at least one good thing about the world around you and you'll find waking up in the morning a little easier.

Changing bad habits is only possible once we have decided that we want to learn to be patient, and feel comfortable with ourselves. Because if we're too hard on ourselves, we'll promote the habit of giving up the first time we fail. Regardless of how many times we may stumble and fall back into old habits and old ways of thinking, we should never give up on ourselves.

  • Instead of saying I can't, ask yourself "how can I?"
  • I have blue bangs and I sometimes get strange looks. Whenever I get one of those strange looks, I smile. This will either disarm them so they look away or let them know I'm happy and encourages them to smile back just as warmly.
  • Stop doing negative things. Whether it's something you say that is anti-you or something you do that takes away from fulfilling goals... stop it.
  • Find someone who already has the attitude you wish to have. Follow their lead, learn from their example.
  • One of the fastest ways to change your attitude is to take the focus off yourself and to help others in need. It's humbling to know that there really are people who are less fortunate as us.
  • Be social. Have some fun and enjoy friends and acquaintances.
  • Recognize that most changes occur slowly, over an extended period of time.

Don't create a negative world, which will make you thoroughly unhappy. Success is never given to those who are consistently negative and unhappy.
